The 21-track recording of the 2001 National Music Theatre Network's staged concert in New York City, directed by Peter Flynn. The company includes Jeremiah Miller, James Celentano, Daniel Frank Kelley, Tim Ewing, Harvey Evans, Bill Buell, Brooks Ashmanskas, J. Brandon Savage, Andrea Burns, Matt Shepard, Carole Shelley, Rose McGuire, Wynne Anders, Francine Lobis, Marguerite Shannon, Tim Howard, Tim Salamandyk and John Summerford.

Anderson and Goldsmith's songs are brashly old-fashioned, but in a good way, with hummable melodies and bright lyrics... zestfully sung by the National Music Theater Network cast.

During the opening number, "Wall Street Lament", the cast sings about "the good old days" and this is what this is all about...songs that bring back memories of musicals like Oliver. A highly melodic score and shows that there are still people capable of writing in the old and delightful Broadway style. I highly recommend this full of hope and dreams musical!

Shine! is highly tuneful and appears to be a basically friendly show with considerable good humor. It is melodic and bouncy, traits that are in short supply nowadays.

An entertaining all-American answer to Oliver.  The authors have the good sense to offer Alger's optimistic "American dream" message undiluted, a risky but effective approach.
